Oh man! That's a terrific description of The Throng-- it really brings back memories (and I mean *good* memories!). Your section on me seems especially spot-on; in fact, it's one of the best biographies of myself that I've ever read. Although, for the record, I'm only 6 feet tall (but I still have the goatee and mustache, even though my hair is a lot shorter and I probably weigh about fifty pounds less than I did back then). I hope all is well with you!

I am wandering about your classes and how I can join. I have been doing stand-up for 10 years and improve has always been what i truly want to do. I saw Bill on channel 3 i believe, and was very excited to hear about a school near me. Please get back to me with some information on classes or anything at all to do with your theatre

Thanks for asking, Gracie! We have Open Mic Sandwich and PJI Am Happy Hour the last week of April. And of course, coming in May- Rodgers and Hammerstein Are Dead!

I'll update the calendar this very weekend. Updating an April calendar on April 17th? Looks like SOMEONE'S in the running for the 2010 Gordon L. Salkins Award For Incomprehensibility and Difficulty of Use!

Thanks for the sweet words! Hopefully I can live up to your estimations....

As for the "indie feel" of improv shows - I been done did some thunkin on this topic of late. It's not just the lower production values of some improv shows (after all, not every group needs sets, costumes, even lights and a stage - some shows are fine without.) It can also be the shows themselves that are sometimes too "indie". We've all been to shows where the performers seem in on some joke, but much of the audience is completely lost.

If we are going to grow and sustain an audience for improv in Philly, it needs to consist of more than fellow improvisors, friends and family. I love the underground vibe of improv and alternative comedy, but we should take that and blend it with a degree of accessibility and higher show quality, and invite people in to see shows that mix the two ideals. That's part of what I'm hoping to achieve with R&H ARE DEAD.

Tell Paul I said hey.

Poor poor "what?" - she obviously doesn't understand humor or improv. Pity! Or maybe she's just used to self-congratulatory mediocrity.

So the first part of your post judges the indie feel of improv shows, and then you finish off your post with a reference to rape. Ew.
