Improv For the Young Actor

Improve your improv with PJI! In this workshop intensive, participants will learn to translate improv skills and techniques to their work onstage through interactive games and character development activities. It’s accessible to improv beginners and aficionados alike, and features games, exercises, and instruction from PJI co-founders Kate Sabato and Alexis Simpson.
About the teachers:
Alexis Simpson has been performing comedy for a decade. In addition to her regular appearances with improv comedy supergroup EXTRA-STRENGTH at Los Angeles’ famed iO West, she performs with the Philadelphia-based troupes Rare Bird Show and the Real Housewives of Philadelphia. She has also been a member of ComedySportz Philadelphia since 2005. Alexis has performed all over North America, including appearances at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, the Second City Skybox, the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, the ComedySportz World Championships, the Chicago Improv Festival and the
Toronto Improv Festival. She is a proud graduate of the Arden Professional Apprenticeship, the top theatre management training program in the country.
Alexis has taught improv to students ages 5 to 75, and has taught children as a member of the Arden Drama School faculty (K-12), Project Forward Leap academic enrichment camp (Grades 6-8), Peoples Light and Theatre Co Summerstage (Grades 3-6), the North Penn Great Improv Event (Grades 7-12), South Philadelphia High School, the EducationWorks afterschool program (Grades 9-12), and the ComedySportz High School League.
Kate Sabato Besides being a Child Coordinator, Kate is also an improviser/director with the internet comedy show All Over! Philadelphia, and serves as Managing Director of the Philadelphia Joke Initiative. She has ten years’ experience as a theater professional in the Philadelphia area and ten years’ experience working with children as a teacher, a performer, and a director.
