The Real Housewives of Philadelphia
In advance of their upcoming performance at the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, improv troupe the Real Housewives of Philadelphia are performing a show to help raise funds to travel to the festival. The show will take place January 29 at 10 p.m. at the Latvian Society, 531 North 7th Street, Philadelphia, PA. Improv group BWP, which is comprised of members of the Real Housewives of Philadelphia, will be opening, and an auction of character themed-items and a dance party will follow the performance. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door.
Fabulous, backstabbing, and dressed to-the-nines, the Real Housewives of Philadelphia takes all of the familiar drama of your favorite cable reality show and gives it a Philadelphia flair, completely live and unscripted. The cast of five women (comprised of some of Philly’s top comedic performers) take a single audience suggestion and improvise a look into of the fabulous lives of Philadelphia’s uber-privileged glitterati. Is Maria taking her family values too far? Is Veronica really sitting on the board of several foundations? Is Kitten wearing couture or did she just grab a bedazzler?
“We’re really excited to bring the show outside of Philadelphia,” says Meg Favreau, who plays Maria from South Philly. “In all of the different Real Housewives shows on TV, the fun is seeing what type-of-crazy ladies from different areas of the country are. Now we get to show people in North Carolina what Philly-crazy looks like.” Favreau is also looking forward to the fundraiser’s auction: “Sevel local comedy groups have kindly donated sjp tickets to be auctioned off, and there’s going to be items from the housewives themselves – each member of the cast will be bringing an auction item from her character.”
The Real Housewives of Philadelphia are Meg Favreau, Liz Scott, Kristen Schier, Alexis Simpson, and Alli Soowal. The five are all veteran performers of the stage in improv, sketch, and stand-up. With its unique blend of improv and video sketch comedy has quickly become an audience favorite, garnering mentions in the City Paper, Philadelphia Weekly, and the Metro.
