Leo Callahan and NYC Magnet Theater’s Dunk

admin | May 21, 2010 in Hats Off! to PJI | Comments (0)

So I know I should be telling you to go see Rodgers and Hammerstein Are Dead tomorrow night. You SHOULD go see it (and tomorrow night is kind of special, as it will feature music from Todd Chappelle and Stucco Lobster Breadbox performing under the moniker The Musicians of Comedy).

However, one of my favorite Philadelphia improv groups is also performing tomorrow night. I went to college with, and had the privilege of performing with, many of Leo Callahan’s cast members. When I watch them play, I am reminded of how much joy there is in creating comedy with your best friends.

The official LC blurb:

“Leo Callahan is one of Philadelphia’s most handsome indie improv groups.  They perform intelligent and elusive longform improv in the spirit of their namesake, the only convict to escape from Eastern State Penitentary and never be recaptured (he would be over 100 now).  They are hosting Dunk, a very tall but fundamentally sound improv team from NYC’s Magnet Theater.”

What: Leo Callahan and NYC Magnet Theater’s Dunk
Venue: The Arts Parlor; 1170 S. Broad St, Philadelphia PA 19146 (it’s right next to the Broad & Federal subway stop)
Contact info: LeoCallahanImprov@gmail.com
Date: Friday, May 21st
Time: 9:00 – 10:00 pm
Cost: $5 at the door
BYO: yes!

It’s obvious that Friday night is a hoppin’ night for Philadelphia improv. I haven’t even mentioned The N Crowd yet! So whether you go see Leo Callahan and Dunk, Rodgers and Hammerstein Are Dead, or Philly shortform darlings The N Crowd is irrelevant. What matters is that you just go see something.

xoxo.
